As a mom with sensitive skin, I knew right out of the gate how to equip my son with the best skin products from the moment he was born to keep his skin smooth and free of irritation.
Sure, it took me many years of trial and error, but now I have a solid list of go-tos that fit any parent, newborn, toddler or older child with skin issues, whether it’s from a condition like eczema or psoriasis or general sensitive skin.
Check out my top picks for below for the most popular sensitive skin skin care categories like shampoo, body wash, face wash, lotion and more.
While many of these have been recommended to me by dermatologists and health professionals, please remember information on this blog is not medical advice.
Favorite Shampoo for Sensitive Skin
Honest Company Purely Simple Fragrance-Free Shampoo + Body Wash is my favorite shampoo for sensitive skin, hands down. I’ve used this shampoo and body wash for years both for myself as a parent and my son, since he was a newborn. In fact, every other sensitive skin brand shampoo and body wash broke him out in his early weeks except Honest Company. I swear by it!
Honest Company is always free of parabens, dyes, synthetic fragrances. It’s never tested on animals and it’s dermatologist tested and approved. There are a thousand wonderful things I could say about this brand, but check it out for yourself!
Favorite Body Wash for Sensitive Skin
For kids, Honest Company Purely Simple Fragrance-Free Shampoo + Body Wash. You can check out my reasons above, especially for kids.
For adults, I personally Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash. Not only is Dove’s body wash hypoallergenic and sulfate-free, but it also effectively washes away bad bacteria while nourishing your skin. I’ve tried store-brand knock-offs of this particular body wash and they are not the same. Buyer beware!
A runner-up for my favorite adult’s body wash for sensitive skin is CeraVe’s Hydrating Body Wash.
CeraVe has seen some major popularity lately thanks to TikTok and for good reason: It’s great for sensitive skin, it keeps skin hydrated, and it’s developed with dermatologists.
I also love any brand that commits to being environmentally friendly. CeraVe is also certified Climate Pledge Friendly by Amazon!
Favorite Face Wash for Sensitive Skin
Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser is a go-to for dermatologists and it’s been a staple in my bathroom for most of my adult life! It’s perfect for sensitive skin and it’s even been clinically tested specifically for sensitive skin.
I use Cetaphil morning and night to keep my face fresh and clear. They even have adorable travel-sized bottles, too!
Favorite Baby Lotion for Sensitive Skin
Once again, Honest Company for the win! Luckily, by keeping my son’s skin products simple and pure, we very rarely have had to use lotion on his skin. Honest Company’s Purely Sensitive Body Lotion works great in those winter months where skin gets a little chapped.
Favorite All-Around Lotion for Sensitive Skin
Every morning and night, I use Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion. I love it because it’s non-greasy, soaks in quickly, and it has lovely vitamins like E and B5 to replenish skin. It includes avocado oil, too, which is a great moisturizer for sensitive skin!
Favorite Lotion for Cracked, Sensitive Skin
Every now and then, we all get patches that regular lotion just can’t touch, especially in the winter. For those times, I break out the Aquaphor Healing Ointment. It’s a large container and may seem pricey, but it lasts forever and a little goes a long way. A night or two of using this ointment and those stubborn patches disappear.
The healing ointment also great to use on diaper rashes, cuts and other nicks and sore patches of skin.
Favorite Face Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin
And to round out the list, my absolute favorite nightly face moisturizer for sensitive skin is Honest Company Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream. This has been in my rotation for several years and I simply wash my face and apply this before bed. It features two kinds of hyaluronic acid which binds water and draws moisture to the skin’s surface, giving skin a plump and dewy look and feel.
During the day, I apply a moisturizer with SPF, like CeraVe’s Ulta-light Moisturizing Lotion. It is light enough to pair with your regular makeup routine and keeps wrinkles and skin cancer at bay at the same time.
